Thomas C. Katsouleas, Executive Vice President and Provost of the University of Virginia and YRP Advisory Council member, wrote an article for The Economic Times regarding the role of the University of Virginia as a leading global research institution and the grand challenge that the Yamuna River Project is undertaking.

“Earlier this month, minister of state, housing and urban affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri spoke to an international gathering in Delhi about the imperative to restore the Yamuna to life. It is truly an epic challenge to renew a completely dead waterway — currently with 0% oxygen content and unable to support any life — in one of the most populous urban centres on the planet.

The University of Virginia (UVA) is one of the partners committed to work with Indian and Delhi officials to address this challenge. The UVA faculty and students have conducted five years of analysis and studio design of the Yamuna. This work identifies the interacting contributions to, and possible solutions for, the river’s current state, and creates designs to imagine the restored river.”
